Usually I’m working on a small and low key project, so you’ll usually find me packing real, real light. Sometimes it’s questionable if I’ll even have a flash with me, depending on what I’m doing of course. For a class/workshop I’m taking we were required to capture the moment of action related to sports. I was thinking I could do the usual ubiquitous sunset shots with joggers running dragging my shutter till I got the motion blur I thought necessary.
Turns out I have alot of expensive gear that doesn’t get the work out it should. So I grabbed a pair pocket wizards and 2 speed lights and off I went. I met my friend Kyle, quickly ran through what I was after and we went straight to the end of his driveway and set up on the road in front of his place. I wanted to try my hand at some cross lighting for that dramatic feel. It was dark so it was easy to loose the background and just slightly illuminate the road. Having wireless remotes is a wonderful thing to have and I think it defiantly aides in hands on learning off camera lighting. Pocket wizard also has the zone controller now and I think it’s worth getting for on the fly power adjustments for speed lights.
